Hyderabad: Telangana Recognised School Managements Association (TRSMA) on Saturday demanded that the State government hold a time-bound investigation and speedy prosecution in the brutal killing of private school principal Rupa Reddy in Nalgonda district. It wanted the case to be tried through an appropriate fast-track court.
In a statement, TRSMA president S Madhusudhan said teachers and schools were increasingly facing instances of ill-treatment, abusive behaviour, humiliation, threats and intimidation from some agitated parents, certain students and representatives of some community organisations.
Madhusudhan urged the government to enact a comprehensive ‘Teachers and Schools Protection Act’ to provide effective safeguards to teachers, principals, correspondents and educational institutions.
The proposed legislation, he said, should provide an effective legal framework to deal with assaults, threats, intimidation, unlawful entry into school premises, vandalism, damage to school property and obstruction or disruption of legitimate academic activities.
The TRSMA also wanted the government to establish a coordinated school safety and teacher protection mechanism involving the education and police departments, and district administration for immediate response to serious incidents.
