Hyderabad: The State government on Thursday issued orders relaxing the eligibility criteria for the Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (TS EAMCET) 2020.
Instead of 45 per cent marks, now students who have passed intermediate examinations and qualified in the entrance test are eligible for admissions. The government move of doing away with minimum qualifying marks, comes as one time measure in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier, as per the TS EAMCET notification, candidates should obtain at least 45 per cent marks (40 per cent in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the subjects specified taken together at 10+2 pattern except for BPharmacy course.
In view of the Covid-19 pandemic, the State government has passed all candidates of the Intermediate Public Advanced Supplementary Examinations without conducting the exams and they were awarded minimum marks. Several students who qualified in the TS EAMCET however could not get the ranks as they failed to meet the eligibility criteria of 45 per cent marks in the intermediate.
“The government after careful examination in the matter and in view of the extraordinary circumstances prevailing due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the State, has decided that sub-clause (ii) of Clause-2 as contemplated under the TS EAMCET-2020 Exams notification shall not apply in respect of those students who passed 10+2 examination and who qualified for TS EAMCET 2020 and also decided that to direct the TS EAMCET 2020 authorities to permit such students to appear for the counselling in respect of TS EAMCET (Admissions)-2020, without insisting the eligibility criteria for qualifying examination marks. This order applies only for this year i.e. 2020-2021 as a special case and shall not be made as precedent in future, and shall not be applied from 2021-2022,” the order read.
