Hyderabad: The heavy rains and the resultant floods in the State had resulted in the death of 50 persons, including 11 from GHMC area, besides damaging standing crops to the tune of Rs 2,000 crore in the State.
Officials participating in a high-level meeting at Pragathi Bhavan on Thursday informed Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao that standing crops in 7.35 lakh acres were inundated. Many areas in the GHMC area were submerged because of the extremely heavy rainfall (31 cms) in a short period of time. Water flooded cellar areas of complexes that were built in the FTL of erstwhile tanks. In all, 20,540 houses in 144 colonies located in 72 different areas of the city were inundated affecting 35,000 families. The impact was more in LB Nagar, Charminar, Secunderabad and Khairatabad zones.
The officials informed that 14 houses were damaged completely and another 65 partially in the GHMC area and the GHMC and NDRF teams were involved in rescue operations. BT roads in 445 places and 6 national highways passing through the city were also damaged. The officers said that repairs to these roads have been undertaken. In all 72 rehabilitation centres were started and food and temporary shelter have been provided. Rains had severe impact on GHMC and 30 more cities in the State. Over 238 colonies were inundated and roads were damaged in 150 places.
Nine substations under the Transco and 15 substations under the TSSPDCL and 2 substations under the TSNPDCL were also submerged under floodwater. Water has been pumped out of all these substations on war footing. Supply of power has been restored in a phased manner after water from cellars of residential complexes has been pumped out. Power lines have been restored wherever the poles have fallen. The loss to the electricity department was estimated to be Rs 5 crore as many transformers on the banks of River Musi were washed away in the floodwater.
In all 101 tanks breached, 26 partially breached resulting in a loss of Rs 50 crore to the Water Resources Department. Panchayat Raj roads were damaged in 475 places and 269 roads were badly damaged resulting in a loss of Rs 295 crore. It was estimated that R&B roads were damaged at 113 resulting in a loss of Rs 184 crore and Rs 11 crore loss was reported from damages to the National Highways.
