Hyderabad: The State Government’s plans to set up Telangana Special Food Processing Zones (TSFPZs) evoked massive response with nearly 1,500 applications being filed by entrepreneurs, agencies and organisations.

Telangana government has been focusing on rapid industrialisation in food & Agri sector and last month the State Cabinet had approved the Telangana State Food Processing Policy.

Under this initiative, TSFPZs are being planned in all the districts based on the demand and feasibility. Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC) Limited is appointed as the Nodal Agency for executing the project. Each TSFPZ or a Group of TSFPZs in close proximity will be notified as Industrial Area Local Authority (IALA). Single Window Mechanism and One Stop Service Centre are to be established for according timely approvals to units.

Accordingly, TSIIC had invited applications from interested entrepreneurs or organisations for setting up units in the TSFPZs. There is a good response and 1,496 applications have been filed. Highest number of applications – 220 were filed from Nalgonda, followed by 158 from Nizamabad, 135 from Ranga Reddy and 131 from Khammam districts, said an official from TSIIC.

Majority of the applicants evinced interest in setting up rice mills, oil mills, cold storages and warehouses. There are also applications for setting up ready to cook biryani and other dishes products and ready to serve dishes products, the official informed. After evaluating the detailed project reports and applications submitted by each applicant and their project feasibility in 30 days, the exact locations of TSFPZs will be notified and intimated separately. Already, potential sites for development of TSFPZs are identified in all the districts. Based on the applicants projects, land will be allocated ranging from 500 square metres to five to six acres, the official said.

“While, TSIICs role will be to allocate land, Commissioner of Industries will be entrusted with the task of extending subsides and other components” the official said. Instructions have been issued to complete all the tasks in three months. From the government’s end, infrastructure works will be executed and completed and the agencies will have to expedite works to commence operations in respective units, the official added.

These TSFPZs will have integrated infrastructure facilities for processing and value addition of various food grains, which are expected to be in abundant quantity due to enhanced output, following availability of water from large scale irrigation projects. The objective is to offer better price to the farmers through value addition and export of processed food items.

Salient Features of TSFPZs

▪Integrated Food & Agro Processing Zones with co-existence of units in the value chain.
▪Industrial Plots and Standard Design factory sheds to be made available for setting up units.
▪Roads, reliable water supply, uninterrupted power supply, Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP), Solid Waste Management etc. would be developed.
▪GIS based layout showing plots and their availability online to prospective entrepreneurs.
▪State Government will obtain necessary clearances or approvals, including environmental clearances.
▪Single window mechanism for all approvals and clearances for the units.
▪Incentives will be applicable under T-IDEA, T-PRIDE and Food Processing Policy.
