TS govt committed to welfare of journalists: KTR

In a review meeting here on Wednesday, the Minister assured that he would resolve the pending issues pertaining to journalists at the earliest

Hyderabad: Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao will disburse financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh each to the families of about 75 journalists who passed away recently at a programme organised at Jalavihar on March 7. Further, financial assistance of Rs 50,000 each will be provided to 15 journalists suffering from chronic diseases or were critically injured in accidents. The funds will be released from the Journalists’ Welfare Fund from which financial assistance was provided to families of about 260 journalists who died and 93 journalists who are unable to work due to serious illness or accident so far.

In a review meeting here on Wednesday, the Minister assured that he would resolve the pending issues pertaining to journalists at the earliest. He discussed various issues like pending funds to the Telangana State Media Academy, allocation of houses or house sites to working journalists in various parts of the State including Hyderabad, grading for small newspapers among others, with Academy chairman Allam Narayana and journalist leaders. He said the State government was committed to resolve the issues and will continue to work for TS. He promised to take up the issue of houses and house sites for journalists with Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and bring it to a logical conclusion.


Minister Ch Malla Reddy, MLAs Ch Kranthi Kiran and Balka Suman, representatives of various journalists unions attended the meeting.
