Hyderabad: Plans are afoot to enact ‘Telangana Organised Crimes Act’ to deal with anti-social elements especially drug peddlers in the State.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao directed the officials to initiate necessary measures in this direction. He directed the officials to initiate stringent action against foreigners from countries like Nigeria who were actively involved in organised crimes such as sale of drugs in the State. He wanted the authorities to take all measures and identify such habitual offenders as well as deport them to their native countries immediately.
At a high level meeting against drug control on Friday, the Chief Minister asked the police officials in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda police station limits to come up with an action plan to curb the drug menace. He wanted them to identify the routes through which ganja was being smuggled into Telangana from other neighbouring States and also dismantle the drug supply and distribution network in the State. He wanted them to focus on certain closed industries on the outskirts of Hyderabad which reportedly became dens for such drug distribution and start cracking whip against them.
Chandrashekhar Rao warned the elected representatives and the officials against interfering in drug cases or get ready for a stringent action. He warned the police, excise and also public prosecutors if their involvement in weakening any drugs case was proved.
In case of observing usage of drugs in any bars or pubs, the licenses concerned will be suspdended with immediate effect. DGP M Mahender Reddy was instructed to convene a meeting with the managements of all these bars and pubs to create awareness against drug abuse as well as caution them against encourage the social menace.
Further, the Chief Minister announced that the State government will provide special incentives to drug-free villages and stated that the onus of ensuring that there would be no ganja, wrests on the locals. If a ganja cultivation was caught for more than five times in a village, the government will stop all subsidies and welfare schemes to such villages.
