Hyderabad officials have warned of drug peddlers using QR codes to connect with consumers via encrypted apps. The latest modus operandi, first seen in Europe, has emerged in India, with buyers directed to neighbouring States for delivery of narcotics.

Eleven Bengaluru police personnel, including an inspector, were suspended for allegedly colluding with drug peddlers. Investigations revealed they collected “protection money” and partied with the peddlers, enabling them to sell banned sedative tablets freely. A departmental inquiry is in progress.
