Hyderabad: Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) Chairman, Prof. R Limbadri requested the University Grants Commission (UGC) to increase funding for the higher educational institutions in the State besides support to undertake research and teaching programmes.
TSCHE Chairman along with Vice Chairman, Prof. V Venkata Ramana and Osmania University Vice Chancellor, Prof. D Ravinder met UGC Chairman, Prof. Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar in New Delhi on Thursday.
During the meeting, Prof. Jagadesh Kumar appreciated the efforts of Universities in Telangana in general and TSCHE in particular to improve the standards of education in the State. He underlined the need for involving more institutions in the accreditation process and assured all support to the Universities in the State.
Prof. Venkata Ramana requested the need for providing more schemes to the Universities for faculty development, student’s scholarships, and research and extension activities. The OU VC explained various initiatives including new courses being undertaken in the university.
Later, the delegation met Secretary to the Department of Science & Technology, Dr. Srivari Chandrasekhar and briefed about the activities being undertaken in the State and sought more research support for universities especially in the Science and Technology areas. The officials also met Secretary to the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment R Subrahmanyam and requested a section of competitive coaching centres, infrastructure, library etc., for the Universities in the State.
