Hyderabad: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has announced that it will provide Tenecteplase, a life-saving drug used in the treatment of Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) patients, free of cost to visiting devotees during emergencies.
TTD Additional Executive Officer A.V. Dharma Reddy released the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)-approved drug at Ram Bagaicha Primary Health Centre on Friday.
The injection, if provided to people during the initial 2-3 hours of suffering a stroke, helps in dissolving the blood clots.
According to a TTD official, the drug that costs between Rs 35,000 and Rs 40,000 in the open market would come to the rescue of devotees walking on foot to Tirumala in emergencies.
This life-saving drug project was approved by the ICMR only for the SVRR government general hospital in Tirupati for the entire South India. With Tirupati as the headquarters, this critical drug will be supplied to 13 regional hospitals around.
