Guntur: Two workers died and three others were injured in a landslide that occured while the foundation work for a multi-storeyed building was in progress at Mutyalareddi Nagar on the Amaravati Road here on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as labourers from Bihar. The injured were shifted to hospital where they are said to be out of danger.

Terming the incident as unfortunate, Guntur Mayor Manohar Naidu noted that the cellar work was taken up without the permission of the corporation. Action would be taken against the builders and officials responsible for it, he said.

Officials said that the builders had applied seeking permission for a ground floor plus six floors building. However, the plan was not approved due to some lapses and work was asked to be stopped till they were rectified, they revealed.
