Nirmal: Two daily-wage earners drowned while swimming in an irrigation tank at Mahalaxmi Double-bed room Colony here on Saturday evening. The duo were reportedly under intoxication when they drowned. One of the bodies was retrieved on Sunday.

Police said that Kailash (32) and Koteshwar (48) from the colony drowned when they tried to swim in a tank locally known as Upparikunta, though they were not familiar with swimming. They reportedly consumed liquor and wanted to swim to beat the heat, leading to drowning.

On receiving information, police launched a search for the bodies. A body was fished out late on Saturday night. Another was traced in the morning. A case was registered. Investigations have been taken up.
