Two held, 30 tonnes of PDS rice seized in Adilabad

Adilabad: Two persons were arrested on charges of illegally transporting rice meant for public distribution system (PDS) by a lorry from Telangana to Maharasthra at an inter-state check post at Bhoraj in Jainath mandal on Saturday. As many as 30 tonnes of rice grains worth Rs 9.30 lakh were seized from them.

In a press statement, In-charge Superintendent of Police M Rajesh Chandra said that the accused were Balaram Sahu, driver and Dhanraj, cleaner of the vehicle belonging to Madhya Pradesh. The two were detained when moving suspiciously during a vehicle check held by Jainath Sub-Inspector Venkanna at the check post.


During the course of interrogations, Balaram and Dhanaraj admitted to shipping the subsidised rice from Warangal to Gondiya district of the neighboring Maharashtra. They confessed that they did not obtain permission for transporting the grains meant for PDS. They were handed over to officials of PDS for further action.

The IPS officer commended Venkanna and his team for arresting the two. He directed the police officials to take stringent action against offenders and to prevent the menace.
