Two held for smuggling 35 tonnes of PDS rice on Hyderabad ORR

Civil Supplies officials and police seized 35 tonnes of PDS rice near Shamirpet and arrested two persons. The rice, meant for public distribution, was being illegally diverted to Madhya Pradesh. Authorities are investigating the larger smuggling network involved.

Hyderabad: The Civil Supplies Department authorities, along with the local police, caught two persons on charges of smuggling 35 tonnes of PDS fine rice on the Outer Ring Road near Shamirpet on Tuesday night.

Acting on a tip-off, the officials had intercepted a truck and found that the rice meant for public distribution was being diverted from Shamshabad to Madhya Pradesh. The seized stock is estimated to be worth about Rs 10 lakh.


Officials are probing the network behind the illegal diversion of PDS supplies.
