Hyderabad: This Ugadi, the Telugu New Year, will mark a new beginning for the Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University.

The long and protracted efforts spread over almost a decade are set to culminate with the Telugu University finally getting ready to move to its new campus at Bachupally. With most of the works completed and last of the finishing ones getting addressed, the inauguration of the new campus is being planned for Ugadi festival on April 2.

The university which was established through an act of legislation in 1985 has been provided 100 acres of government land in Bachupally in 2002. However, development of the campus was delayed as the allotted land had huge rocks and boulders.

So far, in given the land, the university administration has established an administrative block, library, Fine Arts college and hostels meant for both men and women.

The issue of acute shortage of groundwater and supply of drinking water which dragged the progress of work has been resolved and thanks to State government’s Mission Bhagiratha, the campus now has adequate water supply.

“We are planning to invite Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for the inauguration of the university’s new campus in Bachupally being planned this Ugadi. After the inauguration, all administrative offices including the Vice Chancellor’s office will be shifted to the new campus,” Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University Vice Chancellor, Prof. T Kishen Rao said.

All postgraduate courses and other hostel-related programmes will be offered from the new campus, while the existing campus in Nampally will offer certificate and diploma courses.

“Evening courses will be offered in Nampally campus and regular courses that require hostel facility will be shifted to the new campus,” officials said.

While the university was given ‘B’ grading by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), the varsity officials are making plans to go in for re-accreditation after shifting to the new campus.

The varsity has increased intake from 20 seats to 60 seats in several courses this academic year. Courses like Postgraduation in Journalism, Jyothisha and Telugu Literature has evoked huge response from students.
