Hyderabad: Following poor tax collections, the Municipal Administration department has instructed all the officials in Urban Local Bodies (ULB) to sensitise building owners to avail the five per cent rebate offered on property tax under Early Bird scheme.
The department offers a five per cent rebate under the Early Bird scheme to all building and structure owners, who pay the annual property tax before April 30.
However, for the financial year 2021-22, tax collections under the scheme were not encouraging. This was mainly due to a series of holidays early in the month. Of the total 13,57,973 assessments eligible for five per cent rebate, only 7,996 assessments availed the benefit as per the April 6 collection report, department officials said.
Commissioners of all ULBs have been specifically directed to monitor the tax collections on a daily basis till April 30 including holidays and Sundays to ensure maximum property owners avail the benefit of five percent rebate.
The department since the last couple of financial year’s has been taking up different initiatives and as a result, there was steady increase in the overall annual tax collections.
In 2018-19 financial year, the property tax collection was Rs.445.89 crore, it increased slightly in 2019-20 and Rs.561.05 crore. In 2020-21 financial year, the property tax collections escalated to a record Rs.719.34 crore and the department aims to improve the tax collections further in the current financial year as well.
