Hyderabad: Uneasy calm prevailed in Bahadurguda village in Shamshabad on Sunday, a day after farmers protested and clashed with the police over the State government’s move to take over 650 acres of land.
Violence broke out on Saturday when HYDRAA and Revenue officials attempted to fence the land, which has been identified for the proposed bullet train project. A Deputy Commissioner of Police and a few other police personnel were injured after protesting farmers allegedly threw chilli powder at them and hurled plastic chairs.
Police removed the protest tent set up by the farmers. Those taken into custody by the Maheswaram police on Saturday night were released on Sunday. Revenue and HYDRAA officials completed the fencing of the 650 acres in Survey Nos. 28 and 62 of the village.
Police personnel continued to patrol the village and checked the identity of people entering the area. The heavy police presence, with personnel carrying lathis, left residents tense.
The BRS extended its support to the farmers and said it would stand by them during the dispute.
BRS Deputy Floor Leader and former minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy, along with her son P Karthik Reddy, visited the village. Farmers and their family members broke down before the former minister and sought justice.
The farmers demanded that the State government withdraw its plan to take over the 650 acres.
