After achieving Open Defecation Free (ODF) status, the village accepted the challenge of achieving ODF-plus status and took up various initiatives. Metlachittapur was subsequently declared an ODF-plus village as all houses and all the institutions like anganwadis, schools etc had individual lavatories.

Besides the two dust bins systems to collect wet and dry garbage separately, two (wet and dry) hanging community dustbins were also arranged in every ward. Animal burial ground, liquid waste management, kitchen garden, community sanitary complex, among other facilities, were also developed in the village.
