Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad Students Union on Tuesday demanded the State government to immediately release pending scholarships to all eligible students. Students have called for a protest and effigy burning of the State government on Thursday.
Inordinate delay in releasing scholarships by the State government is causing immense hardships to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, particularly those from BC, SC and ST categories, Student Union members said.
In a statement, the Students Union said it re-submitted a representation regarding the release of scholarships to the government. However, despite all the efforts of the union, the government chose to be non-responsive and adamant, it said.
“It is unacceptable that the BC category students have not received their scholarships for three consecutive years, while the SC and ST students have been waiting for two years. This has resulted in students struggling to pay their mess fee, while outgoing students are worried about clearing their dues to obtain their certificates,” the union said.
