Hyderabad: Bathukamma, the floral festival of Telangana, lit up the Ramjas College Grounds in Delhi on Saturday, September 27, as thousands of students and families gathered for a colourful evening of prayers, songs, and community bonding.
The Telugu Students’ Association (TSA), Delhi, organised the celebration, which coincided with the festive season of Dussehra. The event stood out not only for its scale but also for the presence of two prominent guests: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and entrepreneur Upasana Kamineni Konidela.
Both joined in the Bathukamma rituals, with the Chief Minister offering prayers and Upasana lighting the ceremonial lamp. Addressing the gathering, Upasana spoke about the deeper meaning of the festival. “Bathukamma is not just a festival of flowers; it’s a reminder of the strength and creativity of women and the joy of community,” she said.
She also acknowledged the efforts of the Telugu youth in the capital, adding that it was “heartening to see traditions carried forward with such pride, far from home.” Her words resonated with the audience, many of whom saw the event as a bridge between their roots and their lives in Delhi.
The evening featured vibrant cultural performances, the traditional puja, and the symbolic Bathukamma immersion. Upasana was later honoured with a shawl and a memento that reflected Telangana’s heritage.
Organisers Vivek Reddy, TSA President, and Advisor Karthik Reddy noted that the turnout crossed 4,000 participants, making it one of the largest Bathukamma gatherings outside Telangana this year. For many in the crowd, the festival was not just a celebration but a reminder of home, marking a strong sense of community among Telugu students in Delhi.
