To emphasise the need to be aware of the dangers of zoonotic diseases, a special assembly was held in Delhi Public School Mahendra Hills for students of classes VI to VII. They were told about the significance of the day and some common zoonotic diseases that can be transmitted through pets.
They were also told about the precautions to be taken while handling pets. An online quiz was also conducted to test their understanding. The event was not only educational but also entertaining.
World Zoonoses Day is observed every year on July 6 to commemorate the first vaccination administered successfully by the great biologist Louis Pasture against the deadly rabies virus in the year 1885.

The day emphasizes microbes that pose a threat to human and animal health. This day holds special significance in the wake of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID- 19) pandemic, believed to have been originated in bats and transmitted to humans. This year’s theme is: “Let’s Break the Chain of Zoonotic Transmission.”
