Hyderabad: In the grisly murder of two elderly women, who were lured to a forest area on the pretext of repaying hand loans, killed and buried there, the Vikarabad police have widened their investigation.

Mahbub Bee (65), a resident of Kokat village, and Abeda Begum (60) of Khasimpur village, Vikarabad, were lured to Chevella and killed by the suspects identified as Kareema Bee, her husband Rehman and their relative Nayeem.

According to the police, Kareema Bee had taken a loan of Rs 70,000 from Mahbub Bee and Rs 80,000 Abeda Begum, but failed to repay it. When the duo started demanding the money, Kareema Bee and Rehman took them to Chevella on separate dates under the pretext of returning the money, killed them and buried the bodies.

Mahbub Bee, a labourer, went missing on March 27 while Abeda, a sweeper at a local anganwadi centre, went missing on May 9.

During preliminary inquiries, police found Mahbub Bee was in contact with Kareema Bee, and during interrogation, she allegedly confessed to killing the two women with the help of her husband and their relative, and burying the bodies at Tolkatta forest in Chevella.

Following the revelations, a woman from Tandur, who had lent money to Kareema Bee, came forward along with a few others, and claimed she was also asked to come to Chevella to collect the money on May 14. However, she did not go there.

The police are also probing if any more women were killed by Kareema Bee, Rehman and Nayeem, in a similar manner. The police have started collecting details of unsolved women missing cases reported in the district.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Kareema Bee consumed a poisonous substance at a police station where she was detained for questioning. The police shifted her to a hospital in Hyderabad for treatment.
