Hyderabad: Works on the ‘Vimana Gopuram’ at the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple at Yadadri gained momentum with the temple management calling for tenders to identify an agency to execute the copper plating works.
It is mandatory to take up copper-plating of the Vimana Gopuram before executing the gold-plating works. In addition to prescriptions in Shastras, copper plating is mandatory to ensure longevity and durability of the works, a Yadagirigutta Temple Development Authority (YTDA) senior official told ‘Telangana Today’.
Accordingly, tenders have been floated to execute the copper plating works and an agency would be finalised next week. “This project is being taken up at a cost of Rs 6.5 crore. Our target is to complete the copper plating works by February,” the official further said.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has already announced that the ‘Maha Kumbh Samprokshana’ would be conducted on March 28, 2022. Though all the major works have been completed, a few minor works are currently being executed. As many as 48 idols are carved on the Vimana Gopuram and measurements of each idol have to be taken to execute copper plating work. “Workers have to mould the copper to the exact shape and size of the idols and then fit them piece by piece covering the entire Gopuram,” the official explained.
After completion of copper plating on each idol, gold plating works would be taken up. Regarding the constitution of a special committee to monitor these works, the senior official said a list of experts had already been submitted to the government for approval. Hopefully, the government will make an announcement soon, the official said.
Meanwhile, the temple management had already set up an exclusive hundi besides an exclusive account to facilitate devotees offer donations for the gold plating works. So far, over Rs 9 crore cash and 2.5 kg gold have been donated by politicians, corporates and devotees. In addition to these, announcements of donations worth Rs 40 crore have been made by some persons and this is yet to be received.
