Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao cautioned the voters of Jubilee Hill constituency against voting for the Congress and giving them a license to get their homes demolished. He accused the Congress government of neglecting Hyderabad and pushing students and farmers into distress.
“People must remember that voting for the Congress is nothing short of giving them a license to get their homes demolished. While not a single house was constructed by this government in Hyderabad, hundreds of homes across the city have been razed to rubble,” he said, adding that former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao gave house pattas to one lakh families by regularising their lands.
Addressing the party cadre from Vengalrao Nagar division of Jubilee Hills constituency on Monday, Rama Rao said Hyderabad had been abandoned for the last 22 months, with no Minister, no MLA, or anyone from the Congress attending to the needs of Hyderabad. He cited the recent incident where three youths were washed away in the rains as proof of the government’s apathy.
“They appointed three Ministers for the Jubilee Hills by-election, but none for the people suffering in Hyderabad. If we built 36 flyovers, they cannot even fill potholes,” he charged. He stated that Hyderabad saw a 43 per cent rise in crime, including daylight murders, and increased violence against women under the Congress rule.
The BRS working president said the Congress had not only failed to implement its electoral promises, but also discontinued numerous initiatives of its predecessors. He reminded that former Chief Minister late YS Rajasekhar Reddy launched fee reimbursement in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh which was continued by the BRS government even after formation of Telangana State.
Rama Rao accused Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka of betraying 13 lakh students by halting fee reimbursement and leaving their future in jeopardy. “We reimbursed Rs 20,000 crore in 10 years, including Rs 3,000 crore dues left by the Congress in 2014. But this government says ‘we don’t have money’ while students are denied certificates and forced out of colleges,” he said, adding that SC, ST, BC and minority students were the worst affected.
Further, the BRS leader accused the Congress leaders of indulging in a large-scale urea scam. He said the Congress leaders were looting urea and selling it in the black market. He pointed to the incident of the gunman of Miryalaguda MLA who was caught stealing a lorry-load. “Imagine how deep the rot goes. If a gunman could divert a lorry-load of urea, we know that a Congress MLA is capable of looting an entire godown,” he remarked.
Calling the Congress arrogant, corrupt and incompetent, he said, unless people teach them a lesson, welfare and development would remain abandoned.
