Warangal Rural: Parkal police seized at least 30 mini-trucks (three-wheelers) and passenger auto rickshaws for carrying people in violation of rules on Saturday. The police intensified vehicle checks under Parkal area following the accident at Neerukulla crossroad in Athmakur mandal in which four farm labourers died when the auto rickshaw in which 16 persons including the driver was rammed by a car on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Parkal ACP A Srinivas warned that drivers/owners of three-wheelers which are used for other than prescribed purpose and carrying passengers in excess of permitted limit would have to pay a fine of  Rs two lakh besides serving one month imprisonment. “We will not allow goods auto rickshaws to take passengers,” he said, adding that strict vigil will be put on the autorickshaw drivers. “We are taking all steps to prevent the road accidents,” he said and directed the auto drivers follow the rules of the government.

The police have also urged the people, especially the farm labourers, to avoid travelling in the overloaded auto rickshaws as it has become a regular practice for the people to go in auto rickshaws to work in the farms from one village to another village during the chilli and cotton harvesting season in many rural areas in the erstwhile Warangal district.
