Kothagudem: Everyone who makes a living by driving auto rickshaws should use government insurance schemes, suggested Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju.

As part of the National Road Safety Month-2025, an awareness programme was organised for motorists at Prakasam Stadium here on Thursday by Kothagudem sub-division police. About 2,000 people, including students and autorickshaw drivers, attended the programme.

The SP, along with the students, visited the stalls set up at the stadium, indicating road safety rules. Addressing the gathering, Rohith Raju advised that every motorist must follow road safety rules. He urged all motorists to wear helmets and seat belts while driving vehicles.

Road accidents occur due to careless driving, and many lose their precious lives. Rash driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, overloading and travelling on the wrong route were the reasons for accidents in the majority of cases.

“Autorickshaw drivers are the ones who have direct contact with the Police Department and the public. They should act responsibly by following the rules prescribed by the police. Police should be informed if the drivers find any person involved in anti-social activities or moving suspiciously,” Rohith Raju noted.

Later, the SP unveiled stickers prepared by the Police Department for 8,000 autorickshaws across the district. He said that all autorickshaw drivers should also affix the stickers with their information. More than 500 auto drivers attended the programme along with their vehicles.

The SP felicitated Kothagudem DSP Abdul Rahaman, Traffic SIs Naresh, Madar and Town CIs Karunakar, Ramesh, Shiva Prasad and Julurpad CI Indrasena Reddy with shawls for successfully organising the programme. DSPs, Chandrabhanu, Ravinder Reddy, Sathish Kumar, Kothagudem Municipal Commissioner Seshanjaneya Swamy and district transport officer Venkata Ramana were present.
