Warden suspended after students served insect-infested rice in Sangareddy hostel
A hostel warden in Sangareddy was suspended after students protested being served insect-infested rice. Collector P. Pravinya ordered an inquiry after videos went viral. The probe confirmed the allegations, prompting strict instructions on hygiene and nutritious food in hostels.
Sangareddy: District Tribal Welfare Officer Akhilesh Reddy suspended Shobha, the hostel warden of the tribal welfare residential school at Bommareddipet in Chowtakur mandal, on Friday, following directions from Collector P Pravinya. This was in the wake of students protesting against being served insect-infested rice.
The students had staged a demonstration, alleging that they were being served contaminated food. Videos showing rice crawling with insects went viral on social media, prompting Collector Pravinya to order an immediate inquiry.
Following the probe, Akhilesh Reddy confirmed the students’ complaints and submitted a report to the Collector. Based on the findings, the Collector directed Reddy to suspend the warden.
She further instructed the Tribal Welfare Officer to ensure that students are provided with nutritious food and that hostel premises are maintained in a hygienic condition.
