Sangareddy: Farmers in Sangareddy and Medak districts are living in fear as crocodiles continue to stray into minor irrigation tanks and agricultural fields far from the Manjeera Wildlife Sanctuary, which has served as a crocodile breeding centre since 1978.
Recently, a crocodile was spotted in a minor irrigation tank at Kolkur village in Sadasivapet mandal. As several farmers work in the fields surrounding the tank, the sighting has caused widespread concern.
This is not an isolated case, as crocodiles are increasingly being sighted all along the Manjeera River, including upstream at Singur. They have also been entering nearby tanks and agricultural lands.
With no monitoring system in place to track their movement or ensure conservation, the crocodiles have become a recurring threat to human life in the region.
