Mahabubnagar: Several employees of Amara Raja Batteries Limited had a narrow escape at Divitipally on Thursday morning when the bus in which they were travelling tilted into a section of road that had caved in.

The internal road from National Highway 44 leads to the company’s unit. As usual, the employees boarded the bus to reach the plant and around 7 a.m., the road suddenly caved in, causing the bus to lose control and tilt into the damaged portion of the culvert.

Police and villagers expressed relief that no one was injured. Employees are now using the Ambatpally and Mahabubnagar bypass road to reach the unit.

Meanwhile, traffic movement was disrupted on National Highway 44 near Hotel Udipi Srikrishna between Bhootpur and Sherpally as the Komatikunta stream overflowed. District police arrived promptly to regulate traffic and urged people to dial 100 in case of emergencies.

Following heavy rains since Wednesday, irrigation officials opened two gates of the Koil Sagar project, releasing 1,500 cusecs downstream. The project has reached full capacity due to continuous inflows.

In Jadcherla, the Road under Bridge near the polytechnic institute was flooded, while the service road connecting the highway at Kavrampet was submerged as Nalla Cheruvu overflowed. Traffic in the area was affected.

At Balanagar, the SC hostel building was inundated with rainwater, forcing students to wade out of the premises with difficulty.
