Siddipet: Political differences kept this sibling duo apart for over five years. So much so that the man and his sister, both elected as councillors in Dubbak Municipality, stopped talking to each other ever since they took oath.

However, Friday — the last day of their tenure as councillors, saw the political differences melt away with the brother and sister breaking into tears. The unexpected turn of events during the last general body meeting of the civic body, made everyone emotional too.

They stopped speaking to each other for the last five years due to political differences. They almost treated each other like political rivals for quite some time. However, the duo started missing each other of late, which was evident during the general body meeting of the municipality.

When they met for the last time in the council, Deva Lakshmi turned emotional and hugged her brother and cried inconsolably. Malla Reddy also could not control himself from crying. The councillors and officials also turned a bit emotional after watching them unite.

Malla Reddy even touched his sister’s feet seeking her blessings. The woman councillors comforted Deva Lakshmi. Lakshmi said that they used to be very fond of each other during childhood and until the last municipal elections even after their marriages.

She said that they had stopped seeing each other due to political differences during the elections. As they tried to get funds, the rift between them widened for the next four years.

However, she said she always missed her brother’s company badly. Irrespective of their political affiliations, the brother and sister vowed to stay united until the last breath.
