He may not speak Telugu, but this Dubai sheik was so intrigued by the language that he tried singing a SP Balasubrahmanyam song! The moment he shared the video on his TikTok account, it went viral across the world. Many Telugites began forwarding the video on WhatsApp and appreciated his love for their language.
So, what’s the song, you ask? The sheik memorised the classic song ‘Vidhata Talapuna’ by SPB and P Susheela from the 1986 movie ‘Sirivennela’, and crooned a few lines. SPB had won the Nandi Award for Best Male Playback Singer for the song at the time. It’s still a favourite for many old Telugu song lovers.
“Sarasaswarasurajhareegamanamavu samaveda saramidi…nepaadina jeevana geetham…ee geetham.. virinchinai virachinchitini ee kavanam.. vipanchinai vinipinchithini ee geetham…. (sic),” are the lines the sheik sings in the video. Netizens were surprised that he could memorise such tough lines with ease and sing the song effortlessly.
At the end of the video, he says, “Thank you my TikTok family. I love you all.”
