Hyderabad: An Reel posted by Instagrammer ‘theinmegirl’ (Kavya Methi Khandelwal) cycling on the solar-roofed track along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) at 2.00 am, accompanied by a few other cyclists, has gone viral on the social media platform, reigniting conversations around women’s safety in Hyderabad.
The clip, which captures the woman riding confidently along with her sister on the well-lit Healthway track, has drawn praise from netizens who say it reflects the growing sense of security Hyderabad offers even during late-night hours.
Viewers noted that the presence of a few other cyclists on the stretch added to the confidence the video projects, showcasing a public space where people feel comfortable and safe even during late hours. Many social media users described the ambience as reassuring, pointing out that it is rare in most Indian cities to see women choosing to cycle at such a late hour without hesitation.
Developed during the BRS tenure, the Healthway is India’s first solar-roofed cycling corridor which spans nearly 23 km. The dedicated track is divided into two major sections: Nanakramguda to the Telangana State Police Academy (8.5 km), and Narsingi to Kollur (14.5 km). Nearly 16,000 solar panels installed along the canopy generate renewable energy and ensure continuous illumination, making the route usable round the clock.
Many netizens commenting on the now viral video have credited the then MA&UD Minister and BRS Working President KT Rama Rao for the development of the cycle track.
Meanwhile, the Healthway gives a controlled access, clear separation from heavy traffic and uniform lighting make the track a safe and appealing space, particularly for women and new cyclists. For many Hyderabadis, the 2 am clip stands as a reflection of the city’s expanding infrastructure and its commitment to creating inclusive, secure public environments.
