Watch: Water logging leaves roads flooded across Hyderabad’s old city areas
Despite official claims, several roads in Hyderabad’s old city remained flooded after Friday’s rains. Stretches near Bandlaguda, Falaknuma, Chatrinaka, and Chaderghat saw severe water logging, forcing commuters to take long detours and causing damage to shops

Hyderabad: Despite tall official claims of water logging-free stretches in the city, heavy rains that lashed the city on Friday presented a contrasting picture. In the old city, several main thoroughfares remained flooded for several hours during and after the rains.
Bandlaguda police station on Chandrayangutta to Aramghar road witnessed heavy water logging. “People were stuck for two hours near the police station as up to 3 feet of water was stagnant on the road for several hours,” said Habeeb Ali, a local resident of Chandrayangutta.
The construction of a road median too added to the problem. “There are no outlets for the water to pass from one side of the road to the other. With no outlet, the water accumulated and the road was reduced to a swimming pool,” said Mujahid Alam, a resident of Hashamabad.
The situation was no different at Falaknuma Road near Basheer function hall. Heavy water logging forced the motorists to take alternate routes. “Only buses were able to negotiate through the flooded stretch. Two-wheelers and auto rickshaws had to take a detour of around 2 km,” complained Mohd Jaffar, an auto rickshaw driver.
At Chatrinaka police outpost, the road was flooded, cutting off the main road leading to Chandrayangutta and Uppuguda railway station. “With no alternative routes to reach home, I was stranded for close to an hour,” complained K Anita, student and a local resident of Uppuguda.
In Chaderghat, water entered a leading electronics showroom, damaging the goods. “Whenever it rains, the road turns into a mini lake and water enters the shops,” added Mohd Sarwar, a local resident.
