Hyderabad: Release of web counselling schedule for admissions to engineering programmes in the State has hit a roadblock. While the schedule was to be released on Tuesday, it was put on hold due to what officials described as a ‘minor issue’.

According to sources the issue is with fee revision for private engineering colleges. The State government reportedly decided to continue the existing fee structure for the academic year 2025-26.

The government is learnt to have arrived at this decision as the fee revision undertaken by the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulation Committee saw abnormal fee hikes in some private engineering colleges. The officials are of the view that such fee revision will further burden the State’s finances that are already under stress.

Following this, the Technical Education department had prepared a detailed schedule for engineering admissions in three phases. However, an order, stating that the existing fee structure will continue, has not been issued as the new fee structure is due for the academic year 2025-26.

The department officials are apprehensive that moving ahead without an order on fee might lead to legal issues. As a precaution, they urged the government to issue an order stating that the old fee structure remains in place for the academic year 2025-26.

Not just engineering fees for private colleges, the State government has also reportedly decided to continue with the existing fee structure for all professional courses such as BEd, Law, Pharmacy, MBA, and MCA.

As per the rules, the fee revision in the private professional colleges is to be done once in three years, which will be in effect for a three-year block period. Currently, the fee revision is due for the next three-year block period commencing academic year 2025-26.
