Hyderabad: Another Hyderabadi youth who was enjoying his weekend with his friends got drowned at Kongala waterfalls in Vajedu mandal of Mulugu district late on Monday. He was identified as Rahul Penta (22), a software engineer by profession.

It is now a matter of concern as six youngsters from Hyderabad drowned in the past 72 hours at different places, while another was saved by Irrigation officials when he accidentally slipped into Manjeera river in Sangareddy district on Monday.

Four youngsters from Borabanda in the city were drowned at Bidar where they had gone to visit a dargah, on Sunday. After the rituals were over, the boys went to the lake to take a bath and waded to the deep end, despite not knowing how to swim. When one of them started drowning, the others went to his rescue, but all of them met a watery grave.

An older brother’s attempt to save his younger sibling who fell into Manjeera river while trying to take a selfie standing on the banks of the river proved costly for the former as he was washed away in the strong current on Sunday evening. They were identified as residents of Tolichowki area in Hyderabad.

All the six youngsters were in the age group of 18 to 25, and didn’t know how to swim.

Youngsters from Hyderabad need to be very cautious while going near water streams on holidays and weekends. One shouldn’t get into water unless they know proper swimming. Identify the slippery rocks near lakes and dams before venturing into them as it can lead to accidental fall. One should be careful while taking selfies and avoid going close to the streams.

In Telangana, two more youngsters drowned at a village pond in Ilapur of Lingampet mandal in Kamareddy district on Tuesday morning.
