Karimnagar: Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao on Saturday said he would resign from the post if former Mayor and independent candidate S Ravinder Singh was elected as MLC from Karimnagar Local Authorities MLC constituency.

“Is Ravinder Singh ready to tender his resignation as corporator if he is defeated in the MLC polls?” Sunil Rao asked addressing a press conference here.

Declaring Bhanu Prasad Rao and L Ramana as its candidates, the ruling TRS party contested in MLC elections under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.

Queries on candidature

However, Ravinder Singh confused the public by announcing that he was contesting as an independent candidate as well as BJP and Congress joint candidate. The funny thing is that the former Mayor made victory celebrations after elections on Friday though the results were not yet declared.

The former Mayor won as corporator on TRS party ticket. When Ravinder Singh made victory celebrations, where was the need for corporator post, he questioned.

Sunil Rao alleged that the TRS party had provided an opportunity to Ravinder Singh to become Mayor with the support of TRS corporators. It was shameful on his part to contest as an independent candidate while continuing in the corporate post. So, he should resign to the corporator post if he has any moral values. There was no question of leaving Ravinder Singh till the latter tender his resignation to the corporator post, said the Mayor.

BJP leaders, who were fighting each other due to internal bickering, were trying to create confusion among the public, alleged the Mayor, adding, Ravinder Singh, Tula Uma and other leaders were criticising the TRS party and the Chief Minister only because they failed to get posts.

Unethical politics

Former Mayor indulged in unethical politics with an eye on the MLC post. Ravinder Singh made an attempt to lure TRS ZPTCs, MPTCs, Corporators and Councillors by distributing money and mobile phones in their houses but in vain.

Informing that all TRS public representatives cast their votes in favour of two candidates nominated by the party, he expressed confidence that party candidates are going to win polls with a thumping majority.
