Jangaon: In a shocking incident, a young woman identified as Maddeboina Srilekha (21), committed suicide at the Sakhi centre here on Sunday.
According to the police, Srilekha from Edunuthala village of Kodakandla mandal in the district married one Deshaboina Manohar (19) of the same village.
“Srilekha left home on December 17. Following this, the parents lodged a complaint with the Kodakandla police, who registered a missing case. Meanwhile, Srilekha and Manohar came to the police station and informed them about their marriage. However, neither Srilekha’s nor Manohar’s parents came to take them and she was sent to the Sakhi centre,” a police official said.
On Sunday, Srilekha committed suicide by hanging herself in the bathroom at the Sakhi centre. In a suicide note purportedly written by her, she blamed Manohar and his parents Yellaiah and Anitha, said Jangaon Town Inspector Mallesh. “We have registered a case against Manohar and his parents, and have taken up investigation,” he added. The body was sent to Jangaon district government hospital for autopsy.
