Woman killed by tiger: Cheque of Rs.10 lakh ex gratia given to family

Woman killed by a tiger on the outskirts of Nazrulnagar village in Kaghaznagar mandal on Friday
Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Forest officials initiated steps for compensation to the kin of a woman who was killed by a tiger on the outskirts of Nazrulnagar village in Kaghaznagar mandal on Friday.
Conservator of Forests and field director to Kawal Tiger Reserve S Shantaram handed over a cheque of Rs 10 lakh to family members of Morle Lakshmi (21) from Gannaram village who was mauled to death by a tiger in a cotton farm early on Friday morning. He promised to offer a job to one of the family members of the woman. He termed the death of the woman as an unfortunate incident.
Shantaram said that he would recommend the government to provide five acres of land and an additional ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the affected family.
He stated that an immediate relief of Rs 20,000 was given to the family towards the funeral of the woman. Steps were being taken to prevent human loss by installing CCTV cameras and tracking movement of tigers in the district, he added.
Earlier, family members of the woman and her relatives staged a dharna in front of the Forest Divisional Officer carrying the body of Lakshmi seeking justice and demanding compensation. Forest officials held consultations with the agitators and released the compensation quickly.
