Mancherial: A woman, whose condition deteriorated after undergoing three surgeries at a private hospital in the town, died while being treated at NIMS in Hyderabad early on Tuesday.
Shivini Amani (42), an outsourced sanitation worker of Bellampalli municipality, breathed her last while undergoing treatment at NIMS, one of her daughters, Sony Agarwal said, accusing the Mancherial hospital of claiming her mother’s life by performing unnecessary surgeries to fleece her.
Amani is survived by three daughters. She worked with the municipality for 20 years.
“My mother was healthy until the treatment at the private hospital in Mancherial town. She walked till the hospital. The doctors performed three surgeries to extract money from her. However, undergoing surgeries at the hospital proved costly for her,” Sony charged.
Amani was admitted to a reputed multispecialty hospital in the district headquarters with a large ovarian cyst on October 15. She underwent a surgery and the cyst was removed. She had two more surgeries at the same hospital following some problem in her intestines and other health complications. She then had dialysis due to infection in kidneys.
On November 6, she was shifted to NIMS when her condition deteriorated. Her family members had staged a protest in front of the Mancherial hospital holding the management of the hospital responsible for deterioration of her medical condition on November 7. They alleged that Amani’s health condition was affected after undergoing three surgeries.
Following the protest, a team formed by the medical and health department probed into the incident by inspecting records of Amani on November 8. A show-cause notice was also served on the hospital. The management of the hospital replied to the notice, stating that doctors performed surgeries considering the health condition of the patient.
