Mancherial: Zilla Parishad Chairperson Nallala Bhagyalaxmi said women were as strong as men and could shine in any field. She along with MLA N Diwakar Rao and Collector Bharati participated in the Women’s Day celebrations here on Tuesday.

Bhagyalaxmi said women were excelling in various sectors on par with men. She advised women to grab every opportunity to prove themselves and set an example to others. She said that the government was implementing a slew of schemes for the welfare of women and cited Kalyana Lakshmi and pensions to single women as example.

MLA Diwakar stated that the government created SHE teams for the safety of women and Sakhi centres for women facing harassment and violence. He said that it was extending loans to members of self-help groups at lower rates of interest. She suggested women utilise initiatives of the government to financially grow and to become role models.

Collector Bharti opined that women were agents of social change and urged women to inculcate respect among boys towards women from childhood. She requested them to never practice gender bias and added that mother was a maiden teacher and could teach good habits and discipline to children. She urged them to stop accepting dowry for their sons.

Women employees presented skits and cultural programmes shows as part of the celebrations. Top performing employees and eminent women were felicitated on the occasion.

Municipal vice-chairperson Gajula Mukesh Goud, District Welfare Officer M Uma Devi, District Forest Officer Shiva Dogra, ICDS organizer Atthili Saroja, Sakhi Centre Administrator Srilatha and many others were present.
