Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Villagers of Vempalli in Sirpur (T) mandal have staged a massive rasta roko in protest against the operation of belt shops and unauthorised sale of liquor in the village on Monday. The villagers, in particular, women, expressed serious concern over the rampant liquor sales. The women said that their families were being ruined due to unauthorized outlets of the liquor. They say people were getting addicted to alcohol and were neglecting work leading to financial and health crises.
The agitating residents wanted the officials to immediately close down the outlets. They urged the officials to conduct inspections at groceries stores to check for sale of alcohol. They alleged that certain licensed outlets were encouraging the belt shop owners to sell the liquor. Following the protest, movement of vehicular traffic on Kagaznagar-Sirpur (T) road came to a standstill for hours.
