Women PG students protest alleged harassment by hostel mess-in-charge in Hyderabad
Women PG students of Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University protested on campus, alleging harassment by a hostel mess-in-charge. Following a complaint to Hyderabad She Teams, the university reportedly suspended the accused pending inquiry.
Hyderabad: Alleging harassment by the hostel mess-in-charge, a large number of women PG students staged a protest on the Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University campus in Koti here on Tuesday.
Students who gathered in front of the Vice-Chancellor’s chamber demanded an inquiry into the harassment incident against postgraduate students.
The PG students, pursuing their studies at the women’s university, are provided accommodation facilities at Girls’ Hostel on the Osmania University campus.
Students recently filed a complaint with Hyderabad She Teams, accusing the hostel’s mess-in-charge, identified as M Vinod, of repeatedly harassing them. They also shared audio recordings narrating their ordeal.
In their complaint, the PG students alleged that mess-in-charge behaviour created a climate of fear in the hostel, making them feel unsafe and insecure. They claimed that several students have suffered mental stress due to the alleged harassment.
Meanwhile, the University Principal, Lok Pavani, reportedly suspended Vinod from his position.
