Suryapet: There was a very large turn out of women at a rally organised to protest against the hike against the hike in fuel and cooking gas prices, here on Thursday. The protest rally, which began at old market yard concluded in a mass demonstration at Telangana Talli statue after passing through Shankar Vilas centre and MG road in the town. Women participants held aloft placards demanding roll back of hike in the prices of LPG, petrol and diesel and raised slogans against Narendra Modi Government.
Suryapet Municipal Chairperson Perumalla Annapurna Srinivas carried an empty LPG cylinder on her shoulders to highlight the intensity of the impact on the poor and middle class families. The women protestors also burnt the effigy of Narenda Modi government at Telangana Talli statue.
Speaking on the occasion, Annapurna Srinivas said that the hike in the prices of LPG cylinders would cause financial burden on the poor and middle class families. She pointed out that the steep hike in the prices of the petrol and diesel had also caused direct and indirect financial burden on the poor people. Under the aegis of the women wing of TRS, the women also staged protest demonstrations at Vinayaka Chowrastha in Bhongir in Yadadri-Bhongir district by displaying the LPG cylinders. They also displayed traditional wood stoves literally telling that poor families have no option to go back to the age old stoves, if the hike in LPG prices was not withdrawn.
