Khammam: Persons with disabilities (PwDs) should not feel dejected at their physical condition and work with dedication to excel in all fields, suggested District Collector, VP Gautham.
The Collector said the PwDs with their talents have been proving themselves in different fields and were standing as an inspiration to the society. He distributed artificial limbs, tricycles, wheelchairs, hearing aids, walking sticks and others to selected PwDs at a programme organised by the Women and Child Welfare Department here on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Gautham appreciated the kind gesture by a public sector company, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), which donated as many as 443 different types of physical aids and assistive devices to around 200 persons as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The gadgets and equipment donated by the BHEL would greatly help the PwDs and make their day to day life easy. Despite their disabilities they have been managing their life in an excellent manner and also excelling in many fields.
“The athletes with disabilities have won around 200 medals for India in recent Paralympics Games held in Japan, their medal tally was more than the regular athletes could earn”, Gautham noted.
BHEL additional General Manager, Vasanthrao Jadav said the company has been engaged in service activities as part of the CSR initiative and reaching out to physically challenged persons to make their lives better.
He informed that as many as 51 tricycles, 26 wheelchairs, 19 rollators, 130 crutches, 20 walking sticks, 136 hearing aids, 29 calipers and 18 artificial limbs were distributed to the selected persons.
Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) General Manager, KV Rajesh stated that the corporation has been making efforts to identify the problems being faced by the PwDs and to address them by designing and manufacturing gadgets and equipment to improve their functionality.
With the help of BHEL, tricycles for physically challenged students, hearing aids for hearing impaired students and other physical aids were being provided to the PwDs with the help of BHEL, he noted. District Welfare Officer Sandhya Rani, BHEL manager Rajesh and others were present.
