Kothagudem: Construction workers travelling in a mini-goods vehicle had a miraculous escape as an ash tanker hit the vehicle at railway under bridge here on Thursday.
The tanker heading towards Vijayawada hit the vehicle from behind. The goods vehicle was carrying five labourers and construction equipment. The tanker overturned due to the impact of the collision; the labourers escaped with minor injuries and both the vehicles were damaged in the incident.
Eyewitnesses said that rash driving of the tanker driver was the cause of the accident. It might be noted that two persons were crushed to death by an ash tanker at the same spot last year. Flaws in the design of the road of the under bridge was said to be the cause of the frequent accidents.
The locals have been demanding the public representatives to take the issue to the attention of the Union Railway Ministry and build a flyover in the place of the under bridge from the bus stand centre to Super Bazaar centre.
