Hyderabad: The Covid pandemic has impacted children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), said medical professionals at a workshop titled ‘Lets Talk’, organised by city-based Hear ‘N’ Say Clinic’, a specialised centre for people with hearing, speech and language disorders, on Friday.

The workshop featured parents of children with ASD, children with ASD and medical professionals dealing with special kids, from across the State. The experts said that children with ASD require regular therapy sessions to improve their abilities, especially during the crucial ages of two to six years, when maximum brain development takes place. But the pandemic put a break on these sessions and children were deprived of the therapy and lost unrecoverable precious years.

The workshop provided interesting knowledge-sharing sessions and activities to help cope with special kids and mould them into near normal individuals. It also featured activities for kids and two hands-on training for parents to demonstrate behavioural issues and ways to handle them.

The workshop provided an opportunity to parents and professionals to share insights, practices, outcomes, mock sessions, all of which helped to unlearn and learn the best practices that made ASD kids feel comfortable, said Dr. Garima Vegivada, Clinical Director, Speech Language Pathology, Hear ‘N’ Say Clinic.
