Hyderabad: That online scams take place, robbing people of their hard earned money is nothing new and the same was experienced by Vankudothu Venkanna, a tribal farmer from Bhukyaram Thanda in Mahabubabad district, as he lost about Rs. 1 lakh earlier this month through an online scam.
To aid him in this crisis, the Yashoda Charitable Foundation, an initiative of Yashoda Hospitals, came forward and handed over a cheque of Rs.50,000 to Venkanna on Saturday.
Between June 15 and 18, about Rs. 1 lakh was transferred from his bank account at State Bank of India’s Kesamudram branch and Venkanna was shocked when he went to withdraw money, finding only Rs. 611 left in his account. Upon complaining to bank officials and to the police, it was found out that the phone he had bought for his son’s online classes was linked to his bank account and when his son inadvertently clicked on a link, leading to the scam.
Representing Yashoda Charitable Foundation, Ashok Varma handed over the money to Venkanna and also spoke on the importance of people being aware about such frauds and scams. Venkanna’s family thanked the foundation for the support.
