Adilabad: Only two Young India integrated residential schools were granted to erstwhile Adilabad which comprises 10 Assembly constituencies, upsetting people of the region.
The state government selected 28 Assembly constituencies across Telangana to establish Young India integrated residential schools. Both Mancherial and Chennur Assembly segments in Mancherial district were among the constituencies. However, none of the remaining eight constituencies in Adilabad, Nirmal and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts got a school sanctioned.
Incidentally, Kumram Bheem Asifabad district was among 100 backward districts selected by the Niti Ayog. Adilabad district is also a backward district in Telangana considering its tacky education, health and connectivity and transportation facilities. These two districts register a poor percentage of pass in Class X results, reflecting the need to bolster the education system of the region.
People expressed their displeasure over the government’s decision to ignore backward Adilabad and Kumram Bheem Asifabad. “Selecting two Assembly constituencies out of 10 is irrational and it is causing injustice to this region. At least, one segment in each district of erstwhile Adilabad district should have been selected for setting up the schools,” Sampath, retired principal of a degree college from Kumram Bheem Asifabad district opined.
“Creation of the residential schools in Khanapur, Asifabad, Boath, Adilabad and Sirpur (T) Assembly constituencies would have helped tribal students in having access to quality education. Literacy of these segments can be improved by establishing the school, transforming the society,” Srinivas, a teacher of Adilabad district.
People wondered as to why none of eight Assembly segments in the three districts were not included in the project. They felt that the districts were in dire need of development rather than Mancherial, which witnessed a considerable industrial growth. They found fault with the government for choosing the district based on the success of the party in elections.
Nominees of the Congress won from Mancherial, Chennur and Bellampalli Assembly constituencies. Except for the Khanapur segment, the party’s candidates were defeated in seven Assembly constituencies.
