Hyderabad: A youngster who allegedly harassed a woman by calling her using virtual numbers after installing a ‘Private Numbers’ app on his mobile phone was arrested by the Rachakonda Cybercrime police here on Wednesday.
The arrested person was identified as K Bharath (22), an unemployed youth from Pocharam village in Ranga Reddy district. According to the police, Bharath wanted to have a relation with the victim, a neighbour, and recently in the absence of her husband, sneaked into the house and made sexual advances towards her.
“She resisted his attempts and warned him to change his behaviour. He threatened to spread a rumour defaming her character in the neighbourhood. She threw him out of her house and warned him against stalking her,” the police said.
Angered by this, Bharath bore a grudge against the woman and installed the ‘Private Numbers’ app, and using premium access by paying Rs 3,400 per year, started making calls continuously to the victim and her husband using sexually explicit language. Unable to take the harassment, she approached the police and lodged a complaint.
Bharath was arrested and produced before court, after which he was remanded in judicial custody.
