Nalgonda: Moved by dead bodies of COVID patients being abandoned in morgues, a group of people in the name of GAYAS Team shouldered the responsibility and performed final rites of 77 people who died of Covid 19 in Miryalaguda and surrounding villages.

The youngsters Ghayas, Ubed, Juber, Jazzad, Raheem, Sameer, Kartheek, Yunus and Wasin of Miryalaguda have been spending majority of their time in performing the last rites to the bodies of the Corona patients after the victims’ relatives were not showing any interest in cremating them. Of 10 youth, nine belong to Muslim community, but they were not hesitating to perform the final rites to those belonging to Hindu community. The youth proved that caste and religion were not barrier for humanity.

It might quite unbelievable that the team has performed the final rites of 11 corona patients on a single day ie on May 23. ATata Ace vehicle owned by Mohammed Ghayas was turned into an ambulance by them to shift the bodies of the corona patients to the graveyards at their native places.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Mohammed Ghayas said that the relatives of the dead corona patients had also started seeking their help in performing final rites after people came to know about their services. “We would not collect single rupee from the relatives”, he said.

He said that the behavior of the relatives of the corona patients would pain them more than the risk taken for performing final rites. Even the family members would not come anywhere near the body of the corona patient. They would ask the team members to take photo or video of the body and send them to their mobiles through Whatsapp, he rued.

He said that ambulance and vehicle owners were charging Rs 20,000 for shifting the body of the corona patient to the graveyard from the hospital by taking advantage of the prevailing situation. “Hence, we are using our Tata Ace vehicle for shifting of the bodies”.

He said that some of his friends donated 100 PPE kits and sanitizers to help the team. It would take 1.5 to 2 liters of sanitizer to disinfect vehicles and other purposes. We would wear PPE kits while shifting and performing final rites to the bodies of corona patients.

He is also extending food pockets to the corona patients, who were under home quarantine in Miryalaguda. He told that the people can call their phone no. 9908746018 to avail their services.
