Jagtial:In an honour killing incident, a Dalit youth was murdered by the family members of a woman in Velgatoor mandal.
According to police, Challuri Mallesh (26), a resident of Kishanraopet in Velgatoor mandal, had been in love with a woman from the same village. Some time ago, there was a breakup in their relationship.
As he failed to change his attitude even after repeated warnings, the woman’s father Nainala Raji Reddy lodged a complaint with the police. Based on the complaint, police registered a case against Mallesh and produced him in court.
As there was no change in Mallesh’s behaviour after being released from jail, Raji Reddy decided to eliminate him.
As part of his plan, Raji Reddy, along with his brother Ram Reddy and Harish, waylaid the deceased at Peddavagu bridge at around 1.30 pm on Thursday and thrashed him severely.
Later, they took him behind an old wine shop located on Kotilingala road and attacked him with knives. Mallesh died on the spot due to severe bleeding injuries.
Jagtial DSP Raghuchander, CI Ramnath Reddy and others visited the spot and enquired about the incident.
Based on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s father Rajaiah, police registered an SC, ST Atrocities case and began an investigation.
Contrary to the police version that there was a breakup in their relationship, family members of the deceased said that both of them were still in love.
Photos and videos taken by the lovers were on the deceased’s mobile phone. To erase all the evidence, the accused took Mallesh’s smartphone after eliminating him and placed a small phone at the spot, family members alleged.
They also alleged that police were harassing them and mounting pressure for a compromise. They said they were warned by police of action if they staged a protest and demanded justice for the deceased.
